Dowry Deferral Fee A father-in-law that wants to pay an annual fee
in return for the ability to delay the giving of the dowry: - When
the condition is laid out at the creation of the marital contract,
it's deemed acceptable and does not constitute interest - ribbis.
This is due to the absence of any payment obligation at that stage
and since everything is being agreed upon simultaneously, it is
just considered a dowry increase. - However, if the condition is
imposed at a subsequent stage, it is seen as interest - ribbis. The
rationale for this categorization is that the fee serves as a
compensation for postponing a payment that is already
obligatory.[1]
